Ropes building camera down for the time being

Postby Daniel Pifko » Tue Mar 20, 2007 9:02 pm

The camera in the ropes building that looks at the setup area (http://funston.appweb.org/ropes1.jpg ) seems to be down. A few people have tried to reset it from the window to no avail. We're looking into it and will fix the problem as soon as we can.

The new webcam and the weather station on the clubhouse are unaffected.

Mr. Pifko got the camera back up by getting into the computer and changing a bunch of things, like how it connects and uploads to the net. Thank you Daniel!!!

The Ropes camera & computer is all pretty old gear so we are looking into a new camera set-up in case this one goes down again.

New location for images

Postby flyfun2 » Wed Apr 25, 2007 8:59 am

As part of that upgrade I moved the location of the photo showing the setup area. It is no longer on http://funston.appweb.org/ .

It is now live, and being updated every 5 minutes at http://flyfunston.org/newwebcam/ .

ropes cam update

Postby Steve Rodrigues » Mon May 28, 2007 10:19 pm

I got into the Ropes building this afternoon to troubleshoot the web cams. I couldn't get the Ethernet switch to power up so plugged the cable directly into the Iqeye cam. We now have images, albeit a bit crooked because the camera won't stay level with the cable pulling on it. I think it's time to commit to the Iqeye, ditch the old video cam and set the new one on a dedicated mount.

Agreed - let's do the IQEye

Postby Daniel Pifko » Wed May 30, 2007 5:12 pm

I agree. The simpler the better. I have made some adjustments so the IQEye images look clearer and better lit, to the point where we can probably use it as our only source. The setup area shot on http://flyfunston.org/newwebcam/ now comes exclusively from the IQEye.

The only thing that remains to be done is to set up the IQEye to view the last 5 shots. The current history page ( http://flyfunston.org/history.php.html ) has the correct clubhouse shot history but, for the setup area, uses the old, broken ropes building camera.

smaller :-((

somewhere in all your changes you made linked to image smaller (when you click on it).....it just stays the same size now (320x240) and does not get bigger (640x480) like it used to :-(...(like the parking lot image)

Working out some of the kinks. When I make the linked image 640x480 you can't read the time stamp on the smaller image. Since the basic notion of this camera is that you can see whether gliders are set up it doesn't seem to matter as much whether the linked images is 640x480 or 320x240 - in both cases you can see gliders. Nevertheless, I'll see what I can do in the middle term.

ic....

Postby diev » Thu May 31, 2007 3:00 pm

in the bigger image I can make out whitecaps on the water.....
also while your in there, I think the rest would agree that, more of launch and less bush would be great....understandable if the window edge is in the way...
and by the way.... THANK YOU DANIEL !! for all this work your doing :-)

Angle

Postby Daniel Pifko » Thu May 31, 2007 5:56 pm

The bushes by the Ropes building block a good view of the launch. It's not so much from the window ledge. You should be able to get a better view of launch anyway from the clubhouse cam.

Just to be clear, here are the two camera locations: http://flyfunston.org/newwebcam/explaincams.php.html . This thread is about the Ropes Building Camera.

on this page...
http://flyfunston.org/newwebcam/explaincams.php.html

Can you rotate the green camera (Ropes...) counter clockwise a little?
If you look at it.. (in the day time (and maybe you figured out what I ment all ready and have done it (it's late)))...there is a bunch of bush on the right side of the image, then the setup area, then a little of launch.....so doing this would just give us a little bush, the same setup area, and more launch....
(maybe someone else can chime in if they picture what I'm talking about)....

(one of the reasons I like the bigger image so I can see who is out (one must know gliders) there and call them and ask about conditions...))
who I get up there this weekend....

Double bush blocking

Postby Daniel Pifko » Fri Jun 01, 2007 2:40 pm

There isn't really any room to rotate it left. There's another bush in the way. Check out http://flyfunston.org/newwebcam/setupareawide.jpg , which is the same camera position not cropped.

I removed the old computer gear and video cam from the Ropes bldg this afternoon and mounted the Iqeye cam in the cabinet. It was so foggy I couldn't see the set up area so I am not sure it is aimed well. I hope it will be OK.
