Flyfunston

Our GGNRA contacts have our safety in mind and are working on the off-leash dog issue as much as they can. They are making a couple of “Windmaster”* signs in an effort to alert dog walkers.

The language has not been finalized but will be something like “WELCOME TO FORT FUNSTON Fort Funston is open to many forms of recreation such as hiking, hang gliding, bird watching, horseback riding and dog walking, either on leash or under voice control. Please be considerate of other users in this shared-use area. Special message for dog walkers heading to the beach: please keep your pets out of the hang gliders’ launch and landing area – either leash them or keep them under strict voice control when passing by.”

All pilots: please take personal responsibility for keeping the signs, and our rope cones up-right and in their proper locations. The more we show the GGNRA that we care about our site, the more they will help us! (and visa-versa)

*"windmaster" is a large - aprox 3'x2' - free standing temp. sign with a weighted foot that we use to highlight a special event or message to the public. They attract more attention than installed signs, I think, so we'd like to try putting a couple out - see how long they last and if they have a good affect.
