Tandem hang gliding at Fort Funston on MythBusters TV show!

The "Rocket Man" episode premiered on Nov. 11 and will re-play on the Discovery Channel, Wednesday November 18th at 8:00 PM.

This episode of MythBusters checks out the "Rocket Man" myth, where an Ottoman emperor supposedly used 150 pounds of gunpowder to blast himself 1,000' into the air, exiting his "chair" at the apex, then flying down to land in a river, surviving the feat to great acclaim.

The possible use of folding wings needed to be explored so the program producers contacted Steve Rodrigues to arrange for two of their hosts to hang gliding. Both Tory and Grant needed to be in the air at the same time so Steve contacted Mike Jefferson to fly the second tandem glider. The flying conditions were not spectacular, but good flights were had by all. This episode shows hang gliding in a positive light and was very fun to shoot. Watch for the opening shot of our LZ sign!
